Dear 2016

Dear 2016,

I am sad to see you go. I know many people have said that you have been shitty and are glad that you are over and I get why. The world had a difficult 2016. But to me you have been great and I will always be thankful for that. That is not to say that you were perfect and didn’t throw any curveballs my way, it’s just that the wonderful moments you gave have outweighed the bad ones.

You will be cherished for being yet another great travel year. I went on two fantastic international trips to Indonesia and Thailand. I explored more of Incredible India with trips to Coorg, Kanha National Park, Golden Triangle tour and our epic and adventurous Ladakh road trip. You have given me many memorable traveling moments that I will treasure forever. We managed to travel pretty much every alternate month and if that doesn’t make someone happy, what will?

You will also be the year when I went to my first Cricket World Cup match. Watching the unforgettable India vs Bangladesh T20 World Cup match in Bangalore was a surreal experience. Virat Kohli standing just 50 feet in front of you and waving at you… who can ever forget that moment or the moment when you get to see Steve Waugh sit just 2 rows behind you?

You are also the year where our family expanded with my brother in law getting married and also the entry of two new adorable nephews and one cute niece. You did manage to give us a scare with Dad suffering a paralysis stroke but thankfully he is recovering well.

You have also finally helped me achieve my dream of starting my post-graduation course. Getting into college and starting MA English might very well be one of the best decisions I have taken in 2016. You will also go down as the year where I ran my first 5k marathon only to realize I have a long and tough road ahead to me to achieve the fitness level I need to run a 10k.

What to say 2016… you are filled with some big memorable moments and some small happy moments. I have seen some brilliant movies, listened to some melodious songs, made new friends, went to many family gatherings and had a gala time with you. Thank You for being good and can you ask your brother to be nice to me as well… please.

I look forward to 2017 now. Hopefully we will get along just like you and I did, if not better.

Yours Truly,

Harini.
